The Ministers’ roles as contained in the Ministers’ statutory powers and duties {Miscellaneous Provisions} Act are to serve as advisory body to the President of Nigeria. Their appointments are subject to confirmation by the Senate. The President reserves the power to renominate for confirmation, anyone in the list of Ministers that the Senate rejects during its first screening exercise.

Confirmed Ministers report to the President directly. Currently, there are 24 Ministries, namely: 

1. Justice 2. Finance 3. Defence 4. Education 5. Industry 6. Trade and Investment 7. Labour and Employment 8. Federal Capital Territory 9. Science and Technology 10. Solid Minerals 11. Interior 12. Budget and Planning 13. Foreign Affairs. 14. Power, Works and Housing 15. Agriculture and Rural Development 16. Transportation 17. Health 18. Women Affairs 19. Niger Delta Development 20. Information 21. Environment 22. Water Resources 23. Aviation 24. Youth and Sports. It is important to note that each Minister is assisted by a Minister of State.
