*Update on Nigeria’s Decision to close her Borders

Issues In The News

The Federal Government of Nigeria called it partial border closure. Association of Licensed Customs Agents insists it is total closure. According to the Association over 500 trucks loaded with Nigeria bound goods are stranded at the Seme border with Bene Republic. The Association challenged Nigeria’s Custom Service to open all the trucks to ascertain whether or not the goods contained in them are legal or smuggled goods.

It is now five weeks since the office of National Security Adviser put a task force together to implement the border closure. The task force made up of personnel from Customs Service, Immigration, Police and the Armed Forces is to carry out the following responsibilities:

*checkmate smuggling of illegal arms and ammunition *halt smuggling of banned drugs *curtail flooding of Nigeria with foodstuffs imported into Bene Republic with Nigeria as final destination. *stop movement of undocumented, illegal persons into Nigeria.
