Ibrahim Babangida’s military regime created the State out of Cross River State.

Economy/Occupations: Main oil and gas producing State, fishing, farming, trading and a growing private sector 

Climate: Wet season: April to October; dry season: November to March. 

Rain forest with salt water (coastal area and fresh water in the interior)

State Governor:  Udom Emmanuel of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP

Tourism: Ibeno beach (45 km stretch, reputed to be the longest single beach in Africa), Ibom Tropicana Entertainment Centre, Ikot Ekpene City Plaza, Le Meridien Ibom Hotel and Resort, Le Meridien Ibom Golf Resort, National Museum of Colonial History, Ibom Plaza in Uyo. Qua Iboe River, King Jaja Opobo memorial, National Gallery of Arts(Uyo), Amalgamation House (Lord Lugard’s Residence).
